Loyola Academy Bands Perform Side-by-Side Concert with Northshore Concert Band
On Wednesday, November 16, Loyola Academy Bands performed their first side-by-side concert with Northshore Concert Band (NCB) in the new Leemputte Family Theater. Notably, the performance was an excellent opportunity for Loyola students to perform alongside professional musicians. This was the first in a series of annual concerts as part of an enriching partnership between LA and NCB.
The concert was rounded out with performances by Loyola's Bands and selections from NCB's fall series concert:
Ryan Nowlin's "Let Freedom Ring" Kevin Day's "Requiem for the Unarmed" Charles Ives's "Variations on 'America'" Paul Hindemith's Symphony in B-flat Frank Ticheli's Cajun Folk Songs John Barnes Chance's Variations on a Korean Folk Song
In addition to side-by-side concerts, which are scheduled to occur annually each fall, other highlights of the new partnership between LA and NCB include unique education opportunities for Loyola students like weekly open NCB rehearsals, participation in NCB's annual Festival of Music, and music coaching with NCB musicians, including Dr. Mallory Thompson, NCB's artistic director.
